CHARACTER FACTS
» Name: Isabela (no stated last name in canon)
» Canon: Dragon Age 2
» Reference: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Age_II General Game wiki page
http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Isabela Isabela’s wiki page
» Canon Point: Act III, after the quest ‘No rest for the Wicked’ is completed (link to specific quest: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/No_Rest_for_the_Wicked). Also, since player interactions changes the companions act with Hawke and the rest of the companions, Isabela comes from a game where the Champion was a female (named Marian, the default game name) that slept with her but didn’t romanced her (she romanced Anders instead) and is leaning more towards the mages than the Templars. Isabela’s approval of the champion is high on the friendship meter and the main party was composed of Hawke, Isabela, Anders and Fenris.
» Gender: Female
» Age: Not canonically stated, but looks about 25 years old
CHARACTER INTERPRETATION
» Appearance: Isabela has dark skin, black hair and brown eyes. She has generous curves she’s not afraid to show and wears plenty of gold chains and hearings and even has a piercing in between her lower lip and chin. She wears thigh length leather boots, an underbust corset and a laced up tunic that shows a lot of skin. She’s a duel weapon expert and wears both of her blades on her back and some armor on her main arm (right). She was designed after Selma Hayek and Monica Bellucci (or so the fanboys say). Here’s how she looks in game: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110319011503/dragonage/images/c/cd/IsabelaRomanceOutfit.jpeg
» Suitability: N/A
» Orientation: Bisexual. In the game, she’s a romance option for both female and male Champion, and she often mentions sexual encounters with both genders. There’s even a threesome option with her (and foursome if you’re lucky enough in Dragon age I) that involves both man and woman in it.
» Personality:
Isabela mostly presents herself as a very epicurean woman: she likes good food, good drinks and good sex most of all. She’s extremely promiscuous and often comments on things of the flesh with the Champion and the rest of the companions. On many occasions, she teases Bethany about being a virgin and being so innocent, or she’ll make crass comments about Aveline and her husband. Isabela loves getting under people’s skin through teasing and crass humor and anything she realizes that makes other uncomfortable, she will scratch at that ache for sure. She’s also quite the flirt and loves hearing compliments about herself.
She herself say that she’s a shallow one, choosing to side with neither the mages nor the Templars and seemingly doesn’t care about their struggle. Though she mentions that none should have their fate decided by someone else. That’s something she values over everything: freedom of choice. This comes from the fact that her mother ‘sold’ her to an associate of the Antivan to be his wife. This wasn’t her choice, and while he treated her right and made her his ‘queen’ for some time, it wasn’t her decision and in the end she chose to have him killed to be free. She’s also against butting in other people’s business, unless she can make a coin out of it, and will disapprove of the Champion’s decisions to help more personal NPC quests. There’s also a few moments where she comments about nice shoes, or a hat shop or how she might need a bath, keeping up with the fact that she’s a shallow woman.
Her force marriage is also at the root of her commitment issues. She doesn’t mind having all the sex ever, but when feelings are involved, she quickly backs away. In the game, if romanced by the Champion, she will agree to sleep with him/her, but will not move into the hero’s mansion, saying that she loved once and it didn’t end well and since then she swore off love, preferring the meaningless strings of lover. However, throughout the game, if the Hero’s decisions are right and gain Isabela’s approval, she will admit starting to fall for Hawke (if Hawke hasn’t romanced anyone else by the end of the game). This shows that despite her choice to lock off her heart, the right amount of CR may make her choose to settle for someone, that she has the capacity to love again.
Being a rogue class, Isabela is skilled in stealth, deception and is very cunning. It’s said that she always win at card games because she can bluff like no others, and have the dexterity to cheat at cards as well. This makes her able to see through other’s bullshit and lies (unless they are better at it then her), but she won’t say anything about it if she doesn’t gain something out of it. She’s all for getting ahead of others, to climb the social ladder, especially as long as it doesn’t ask her too much effort. She’s absolutely not against using her feminine charms (and God knows they are very attractive) to get what she wants, as long as she wins in the end. She’s also skilled in sarcasm and veiled insults, using others’ reactions to her words as her own personal entertainment.
Isabela is also a very dominant woman that doesn’t fear a lot of things. ‘Nothing ventured, nothing gain’ is her motto at life, and she speaks her mind loudly and often. As a pirate, she was a fierce leader, loved as much as she was feared by her crew and showed that even a woman could because a successful raider on a ship filled with men. They obeyed her and she was good to them as well, letting them fill their needs when they could make port. She’s the type to act first and think second, which tends to put her in all sorts of troubles, mostly due to her greed and lust. She also always top, so she says herself.
Despite all of her flaws, Isabela shows that she has good qualities, something she quickly brushes off when asked about. Before her shipwreck nearby Kirkwall, she discovered that she was smuggling slaves and freed them ashore even though it cost her a lot in the end. When brought up, she says that she has a own code of honor and that was not the deal she had signed for. Also, when given the chance to save Kirkwall from a war with the Qunari, she returns the artifact that she stole from them, even though this may mean giving up her life. She mentions that being around Hawke changed her, though when Anders brings it up, saying that she’s not as selfish as she tries to let people think, she shush him quickly. She also becomes attached to Merrill, a young elf mage that joins their party, and she looks after her, going as far as threatening the balls of a male Hawke that romances Merrill. And when the young elf mentions that she’d rather live Isabela’s exciting life, the pirate tells her that she doesn’t deserve that kind of life, that she has too much of a good heart for it, admitting then that her life has been hard even if she often jokes about it.

[The feed opens on Isabela’s face: she’s smiling, obviously very happy about something. She puts the device to she can use both of her hands, the view focused on her face and upper body.]
The more I come to learn about this world and how it is different than mine, the more I come to find things I wish I could bring back. This, [she shakes a canister of whipped cream], is by far my new favorite modern thing. Whipped cream in a can! Always handy, I must say. And how it sprays! It’s so much less messy than directly from the bowl that I think I’ll be using it on all of my favorite type of food! [By the way she’s speaking, it’s clear that she’s not exactly thinking of food here...]
And you can’t do this from the bowl either. [She leans her head back and sprays her mouth full of whipped cream, and she swallows it as she tries to not laugh. As she does so, a bit drips in between her full breasts] Oh…[Smiling coyly, she runs a finger on her skin to wipe the smudge there and she brings her finger to lick it slowly, her eyes never leaving the device before she closes them momentarily. She hums approvingly before she looks at her device again, leaning in slightly]
Please, do tell me what else I am missing from my world?
» Third Person Sample Choice: (Prompt 1)
Isabela sighs softly as she slowly awakes from her sleep. There’s that wonderful ache from a night well spent with a rather vigorous young man she met in Hightown on her way from Hawke’s mansion to the Hanged Man. Her ship is stocking up rather quickly and thanks to Castillon, she’s with a good crew, almost ready to set sails. She hums, satiated for the day as she rolls on to her back, not caring much that she’s only wearing her collar. It’s actually a feat that the man managed to get all of her clothes off before she jumped him and there are no surprises that a few trinkets were left behind in the heat of passion. The raven haired woman almost purrs as she stretches herself in the big empty bed, another thing that doesn’t surprise her either: hadn’t the young man mentioned a fiancé or something. It matters little to Bela: she got what she wanted out of the man after all: a good, dirty roll and a fat purse hidden in her boots.
She breathes in deeply the salty sea air in the room and finally opens her eyes, giving a good look around the room before she leans up on her elbows, frowning lightly. She certainly doesn’t remember this room ever being at the Blooming Rose before, and she’s certain she never followed the young man home. Always in impersonal places, it makes it easier to slip away afterwards. Clearly high on alert, she quickly steps out of the bed, her brown eyes searching for her clothes on the floor. Strangely enough, she finds them, and her weapons as well as the fat purse still in her boots, by the foot of the bed, on a chest. Out of habit, she easily picks the lock, only to find it empty of anything else but linens. Picking up one of long dagger, she slips into her tunic and takes a look around, trying first for the door. It’s surprisingly unlocked and when she looks out in the hallway, Isabela is only faced with maids cleaning around. Has Kirkwall another brothel she’s never heard of before?
'He better have paid for this room before leaving’ the pirate thinks as she closes the door behind her, leaning against it as she tries to make sense of all of this. Isabela knows she can hold her liquor well, all too well, and it’s not truly possible that she’s drank too much the night before that she doesn’t remember this room. She remembers well the man she rode hard until he begged for release after all. A cute blond with eyes the color of the raging sea, muscles hard as if they’d been cut out of rock and the rest of him. Well, the rest of him is why she’s rather sore this morning. A true catch that boy had been. Isabela sighs longingly, knowing it’d take some time before she finds such an eager man in bed and she shakes her head of the memories of him, trying to focus more on the memory of the how she got here. No one is foolish enough to kidnap one of the Champion’s friends, and even then, they’d have to go through Hell and back to get to her. Besides, what fools leave their prisoner with an unlocked door and their weapons? This doesn’t make any more sense than her not being able to out drink Anders.
The cries of seagulls cut her musing short and Bela raises her head before she makes her way to the window. Pulling the curtains open, she can’t help the look of completely confusion on her face before she whistles lightly. This is not the place she called home for the past few years, and in fact, it's no place she's ever seen before.
“Bela, you’re definitely are not in Kirkwall anymore…Maker, what sort of troubles have I gotten myself into this time?”
